Mental health
shouldn’t be
such a bummer
Hey! My name is Ashly Burch. You might know me from my writing, directing and acting work on Apple TV+’s Mythic Quest, or as Aloy in the Horizon franchise or Chloe Price in Life is Strange.
What you may not know is that I’m ~mentally ill~! I have an anxiety disorder, OCD, trauma, grief – the millennial starter pack. When I was a kid, I had no idea what the hell was happening to me. I thought I was going insane (if I wasn’t already), and I was too scared to talk to anyone about my thoughts and fears. It wasn’t until I found a forum online where people discussed their anxiety and OCD that I realized I wasn’t alone.
Ever since then, I’ve been passionate about demystifying and destigmatizing mental health. I’ve given dozens of talks and interviews about my anxiety disorder, my experience with grief, or my struggles with OCD. But I’ve always wanted to do more. I wanted to create something that not only educates people about mental health, but also helps them to feel seen and cared for. I want you to know that you’re not alone, no matter what you’re struggling with. Because, like Mr. Rogers used to say: if it’s mentionable, it’s manageable.
But I also want to make jokes about fucking a puppet.
Enter: I’m Happy You’re Here!
This show is inspired by Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood, but made specifically with adults in mind. Because let’s face it, we need some goddamn help. Everyone acts like you’re supposed to have your shit together by the time you hit 30 and not a one of us do. And since it’s for adults, we wanna tackle adult topics like addiction, depression, divorce, and more. But with plenty of goofs because life is hard enough jfc.
